EVENT COORDINATOR & SHOP ASSISTANT

Are you ready to take on a new, dynamic role on the Preserved team? We are moving our little shop of 10 years to a new, larger location with a dedicated event space in Rockridge! There, we will continue our popular hands-on workshop series and launch more diverse event offerings like book signings, tastings and demos! We are thrilled to bring on a new full-time role where you will split your time as an event coordinator: planning, organizing and arranging with our team of teachers, authors and makers; and as a fermentation shop assistant working with our sales team on the retail floor.

The Schedule: 

  • 35-40 hours / 5 days a week: Wednesday- Sunday 

    • Wednesday, Saturday, Sundays 10:30am-6:30pm

    • Thursdays & Fridays 2-9pm

  • We also require your full support and availability during our busiest season between Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve.

What You’ll Do As A Fermentation Shop Assistant:

The Fermentation Shop Assistant plays a dynamic and versatile role at our brick and mortar culinary shop. This position will apply their skills, enthusiasm and judgement to day-to-day business operations, customer support, online store fulfillment and more! We are a small, independent shop where our team members wear many hats and juggle various responsibilities throughout the retail day. 

  • Drive sales through personable customer engagement in-store, over the phone, email and online. After your culinary training, you’ll also assist with customer support and troubleshooting on culinary techniques.

  • General shop management: Opening and closing duties, assisting customers, product suggestions, managing the cash drawer.

  • Receive and process inventory: Unpacking deliveries, breaking down boxes and getting your hands dirty! Receiving items, adding price tags to each and every item we sell, organizing back stock as needed. 

  • Inventory management: restocking the sales floor throughout the day, merchandising and keeping things tidy.

  • Daily shop cleaning: mopping, sweeping, dusting and taking out the trash & recycling.

  • Online order fulfillment: Packing and shipping orders.

What You’ll Do As An Event Coordinator :

This new event coordinator role will work closely with our owner and founder to expand our current workshop schedule, onboard new teachers with new class subjects, and develop new ideas for event programming like fermentation demos, maker popups, tastings, guest talks, cookbook signings and more! We look forward to fresh ideas and enthusiasm to take Preserved to the next level! 

  • Establish and maintain relationships with our workshop instructors, our stock vendors and neighborhood businesses.

  • Coordinating and scheduling events with our management team, workshop instructors and other event collaborators. 

  • Administrating event logistics, including posting our event schedules, setting up registration and teacher communications.

  • On-site workshop management including set up, break down and cleanup. 

  • Managing workshop equipment, ensuring everything is in good working order.

  • Identifying areas for improvement in workshop operations and implementing solutions.

  • Develop new event ideas, objectives, and agendas with the owner and founder. 

  • Assist and collaborate on event marketing materials with our shop social media manager.

  • Re-launch and manage our Workshop Volunteer Program, including onboarding new volunteers and creating schedules. 

 

Qualifications

  • Experience hosting, teaching, or managing educational events 

  • 2-3 years retail and/or food service (FOH) experience

  • Proficiency in G Suite and POS systems  

  • “Hobby-level” experience in home fermentation 

  • Ability to squat, bend and stand for long periods of time and lift up to 40lbs

Compensation  

  • $25 / hour

  • Merit-based wage increases over time

  • 401K matching contributions after 1 year
