ESAs that are Banned from Flying - 2022 Guide

An emotional support animal is a companion for people who need it. They can't go everywhere with their owners, but they offer them comfort and relief when needed the most. However, if you have an ESA letter, your animal will be able to accompany you on any of your travels so long as they aren’t posing a threat to others!

Some people may think that ESAs are only dogs, but they can be anything from a hamster or guinea pig to an iguana.

They all provide emotional support for disabled individuals and make life's struggles just a little bit easier. But, some animals are too bizarre to be imagined as ESAs, thus having some traveling restrictions.

Some of the animals that are banned from flying are as follows:

  • Reptiles

You might have an animal that is not very common in the households, such as a lizard or a crocodile. You can have these animals with you at home by getting an esa letter online, but they cannot go on the plane when you travel.

Likewise, other dangerous or creepy reptiles can not travel also. Even if they are well-trained, they could pose a risk to other passengers only due to their size also.

  • Wild Birds

It is not allowed to fly with a bird. Even if it is an exotic or common bird, it will not be allowed on the plane.

It does not matter if your bird is a wild animal like farm poultry, waterfowl game bird, or a bird of prey; all these animals are strictly prohibited from flying in an airplane.

  • Peacocks and Squirrels

Peacocks, squirrels, and sugar gliders are not allowed on airplanes. You cannot bring them because they might get scared. They also might be dirty or have diseases.

A dog or a cat is different from these animals. For example, dogs and cats can behave themselves when traveling on an airplane. So, an emotional support dog letter is easy to get also.

But peacocks, squirrels, and sugar gliders might not do the same thing as dogs or cats would do in the same situation.

  • Creepy Insects and Spiders

You cannot bring insects, spiders, or similar creatures on a plane because they can make other people afraid and stressed. Plus, you might like your spider, but it will bother other people too much.

So that is why they are not allowed on planes to avoid the discomfort of the rest of the passengers.

  • Snakes and other Dangerous Animals

Snakes that are sold in the United States are not venomous, and they are not dangerous. They might help you. Moreover, you can live with them by getting an ESA letter for housing. But they cannot travel with you on a plane because airports do not allow people to bring animals into the cabin.

Here is a list of some other animals that are prohibited from flying:

  • Goats

  • Kangaroos

  • Pigs

  • Turkeys

  • Marmosets

  • Capuchins

  • Hedgehogs

  • Geese

  • Donkeys

  • Ferrets

  • Llamas

  • Rats

  • Guinea Pigs

  • Turtles

  • Roosters

  • Sheep

  • Chicken

  • Ducks

People have gone to the extremes for their emotional support animals. Some opt for birds while others choose a fish as their companion animal, but what about lizards? Weird creature selections are becoming popular among pet owners in need of an ESA letter because they don't want any traditional pets or something.

People are now opting out from having cats and dogs at home by getting all sorts of unusual creatures such as iguanas, snakes, tarantulas - you name it!

But what is the use of having such animals if, despite having an emotional support animal letter, you cannot take them along?
